"The Americans in Schleissheim, 1945 - 1995"

Showcase with our models at the Flugwerft Schleissheim Museum.


Within this project we are building models of all aircraft types that were stationed or operated in Schleissheim by the American Forces in Schleissheim.

Presently the following models are displayed:

Here we present the models with some basic information. For a closer look and a complete impression please visit the exhibition in the Flugwerft Schleissheim.
 
 
 

Douglas A-26C Invader
Kit: Airfix, Decals: special made for us, Colors: Humbrol
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The original was stationed in Schleissheim with the 344th Bombardment Group (344th BG) in 1945/46. This unit was subordinated to the Occupation Air Force (OAF) of the U.S. Army of Occupation. For recognition all airplanes of the 344th BG carried a white triangle on the rudder. The red-yellow-red band on the fuselage marked the plane as an asset of the Occupation Air Force.
 
 
 

Sikorsky H-19D Chickasaw
Kit: Italeri, Decals: special made for us, Colors: JPS-Modell
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The original of our model was stationed in Augsburg-Haunstetten during 1960 and it belonged to the headquarters of the 24th Infantry Division in Augsburg. This H-19 was used for communications and transportation purposes. In this function it also was a frequent visitor to Oberschleissheim, the Headquarters of the 8th Transportation Battalion.
 
 
 

Sikorsky H-34A Choctaw
Kit: Italeri, Decals: special made for us, Colors: JPS-Modell
The opened engine cowling and the visible engine was scratch built.
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

 
The original was stationed within the 110th Transportation Company in Oberschleissheim in 1960. The 110th was assigned to the 8th Transportation Battalion. All helicopters of the 110th carried a yellow band on the engine cowling and the aft fuselage for instant recognition.
 
 
 

Bell H-13 Sioux
Kit: Italeri, Decals: special made for us, Colors: JPS-Modell
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The original belonged to the 7th Army Aviation Training Center in Schleissheim. This was the only flying school of the U.S. Army outside the USA. Pilots with licenses for fixed-wing airplanes were trained on helicopters and send then on mission to Vietnam.
 
 
 

Bell UH-1B Huey
Kit: Italeri, Decals: Italeri; some were special made for us, Colors: Humbrol
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The original of this model belonged to the D Troop, 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry and was stationed in Schleissheim. Purpose of this unit was to patrol the borders to Czechoslovakia and German Democratic Republic (GDR).
 
 
 

D.H.C. L-20A Beaver
Kit: Airfix, Decals: some were special made for us, Colors: Humbrol
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The original for this model was assigned to the Artillery Aviation Section of the 24th Infantry Division. It was stationed in Schleissheim and used as a light liasion and transportation airplane.
 
 
 

D.H.C. U-1A Otter
Kit: Hobbycraft, Decals: some are special made for us, Colors: Humbrol
This model was built by Peter Horstmann.

The prototype of our model belonged to the 3rd Transportation Company, which was headquartered about 1960 in Illesheim. One U-1 Otter was continuously detached to Schleissheim Airfield.
After the 3rd Transportation Company was disbanded their planes were moved to other units. So the Headquarters of the 8th Transportation Bataillion in Schleissheim received one U-1 Otter permanently.
